SHOWING OFF OUR SHORTS AT PURPLE STATE OF MIND (SHORT FILMS, THAT IS)

sheep

Summertime is tentpole movie season, and here at Purple State Of Mind, we obviously believe in counter-programming. For the next few weeks, every Wednesday, we’ll be premiering short films in conjunction with the Windrider Forum. Craig and I will offer our candid opinions about the selections, and we encourage Purple State visitors to do the same.

The purpose of Windrider is to stimulate conversation through and about cinema. Like Purple State of Mind, it’s intended to be a forum for exchange, a way station rather than a final destination, and the summer online shorts seem to have been made in that spirit.

They’re a real kick to watch, and like Purple State they don’t fit comfortably into easy categorization. They’re not necessarily religious or secular. Nor are they message movies. They’re the work of serious if unheralded artists who are trying to stretch the medium in new and cool ways.

For more about the program, check out John Priddy’s blog about the Summer Online Movie Series over at Windrider.

We’ll link to the first in the series tomorrow, A Sheep on the Roof by Remy Schaepman, a six-minute animation that will “take the top of your head off”, as a professor of mine used to say. Have a look, and lean on in.

See you at the movies.
