Next week, the Purple State Roadshow heads for Florida. What’s the big picture?
Our schedule runs the gamut. On separate nights, Craig Detweiler and I will speak at St. John’s Episcopal Church. On Wednesday night, April 15, I’ll talk about the various religious crises and ruptures that resulted in my book Reasons To Believe. A week later, on Wednesday, April 22, Craig will talk transformation and cinema. Check out the details here.
Speaking of cinema, Purple State Of Mind will also be screening in competition at the Tallahassee Film Festival, with showings on Friday and Saturday night. Check out the schedule here. Question and answer sessions will follow both screenings.
Finally, on Monday, April 20, a Tallahassee organization called To The Village Square is giving us an extraodinary push. The doc will be screening for members only and special guests at the IMAX theater in the Challenger Center.
Then, on Tuesday night, April 21, Craig and I will take part in a dinner and discussion about the larger questions of dialogue and community raised by the film.
Finally, To The Village Square is encouraging people to “Think Purple” and invite an ideologically opposed friend out for a cup of coffee or lunch. We also hear tell that Purple Cake will be served at the Tuesday event.
Through the efforts of the Village Square’s Liz Joyner and many others, Tallahassee, Florida is about to get a mega-concentrated dose of Purple. In an era of economic turmoil and upheaval, when despair often enough turns to rage, and politics become bloodsport, it seems like a good moment to lower the temperature and turn up the dialogue. We’re thrilled to be coming down to Tallahassee to have a nice, long chat about better ways to talk.
